Roy supervises all of the technical staff at Kamen Entertainment Group. With a 22-year background in professional engineering for radio, television, records and live events, Roy brings a creative and experienced vision to the company. Roy started recording at an early age. He got his first "mono" tape recorder when he was 11 years old and soon figured out how to "multitrack" it by covering up the "erase head" to record his friends band. Moving up to a 4 track was a big step and led to all kinds of home grown audio productions. Soon Roy expanded into still-black and white 35 mm photography, shooting everything he saw and developing his own film in his "bedroom darkroom". In his early teens Roy moved into super 8mm silent film. His attempts at wild syncing his audio to silent super 8 ended in college where he majored in Mass Communications, Videography and television production. Upon graduation in 1976, Roy started a video production company and produced a series of relaxation video tapes for hospitals and biofeedback centers, and to pay the bills, worked as a technical rep for a sound-super 8mm company. But his love for audio remained. When a chance encounter led him to Dick Lavskys Music House in NYC. Roy jumped at the opportunity. Honed his skills at radio spot production and developed a reputation for doing great work, winning Clios and having fun doing it. In 1983, he met his future wife, partner and inspiration, Marina. Marina, being a performer, exposed Roy to the "other side" of the glass. Together they helped build Music House into a major player in the audio production for advertising business and in 1987, opened their own company, Kamen Entertainment Group. Over the next 12 years, Roy has gone on to win awards for many of his clients keeping one foot on the ground, one in the future and his head in the clouds. His technical prowess is tempered by all he has learned from MARINA about the performers heart. His background in film and photograhpy has supported his understanding of his clients needs. And his continuing work with Kamen Entertainment Group, MRK Records and MARINAs live shows has ignited a fire in his studio. "When my clients leave one of my sessions, they feel theyve just created a work of art a piece of entertainment not just a commercial. They leave feeling good about themselves and what they have accomplished, and we all had a great day!" Roy has been an active member of SPARS for the past 12 years and a NARAS member since early '97. His other professional affiliations have been with the Software Publishers Association, The New Media Association, Local 802 Musicians Union and AFTRA. He has won numerous awards for his radio and TV commercials including Clios, Radio Mercury Awards, ADDY'S, AWNY'S, Broadcast Design Award, The Art Directors Club Award, Advertising Age Best Award, American Advertising Awards and the Communication Arts Award of Excellence. He was also cited by the Police Department for his work on the crimestoppers campaign. |
